Over 230,000 User Records from Binance and Gemini Listed for Sale
Over 230,000 user records from Binance and Gemini have appeared for sale on the dark web, raising concerns about security in the crypto sector. The leaked information includes full names, email addresses, phone numbers, and location data, primarily affecting users in the United States, with some from the UK and Singapore.
Key details include:
- A user named AKM69 posted a database linked to Gemini, containing around 100,000 records.
- A separate listing by kiki88888 includes over 132,000 records from Binance, including login information.
- The leaks may not stem from direct hacks but rather phishing campaigns where users are deceived into sharing sensitive data.
- In March, Coinbase users lost over $46 million due to social engineering tactics.
- Scam Sniffer reported over $15 million in phishing scam losses in the first two months of the year.
Both Binance and Gemini have not officially commented on the leaks. Users are advised to implement stronger security measures, such as two-factor authentication (2FA) and avoiding unknown links, to protect their accounts.
The rise in phishing attacks and significant data breaches highlights the vulnerability of crypto users to online fraud.
