Bitvavo Secures MiCA License in the Netherlands for EU Operations

Bitvavo has obtained a Markets in Crypto Assets (MiCA) license from the Dutch Authority for Financial Markets (AFM), allowing it to operate across the European Economic Area. Key points include:

  • Bitvavo can now provide services in 30 EEA countries, including Iceland and Norway.
  • The firm aims to become Europe's leading digital asset trading platform and is currently the largest player in the EUR spot market.
  • It holds registrations in France, Austria, Italy, Spain, and the Netherlands.
  • Only a few crypto exchanges have received MiCA licenses, with the Netherlands issuing four so far.
  • Other licensed exchanges include MoonPay, Coinbase, OKX, Crypto.com, Kraken, Bybit, and Bitpanda.

Globally, cryptocurrency regulation is evolving. In the US, the SEC and CFTC are reforming crypto regulations through a new task force. In the UK, the FCA is seeking public input on crypto service regulations to enhance user protection and offer clear business guidelines.
