CFTC Commissioner Christy Goldsmith Romero to Depart by Month’s End
Christy Goldsmith Romero, a commissioner at the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), will leave the agency at the end of the month. This follows the announcement by Commissioner Summer Mersinger, who will depart on May 30 to become CEO of the Blockchain Association.
Key points from Goldsmith Romero's tenure include:
- Oversight of resilient and stable derivatives markets amid market stress.
- Sponsorship of the CFTC Technology Advisory Committee, which produced reports on Responsible AI in Financial Markets and Decentralized Finance.
- Public forums on topics such as AI, cybersecurity, blockchain, digital identity, and digital assets.
Acting Chairman Caroline Pham is also expected to leave after the confirmation of former Commissioner Brian Quintenz. The Senate has not yet scheduled his confirmation hearing. Goldsmith Romero's departure will reduce the CFTC to two commissioners, likely maintaining this number until new nominations are made.
