Congress Unveils Stopgap Bill to Fund Government for Three Months
In a significant move, Congressional leaders have introduced a stopgap bill to fund the government for an additional three months.
If passed, this will prevent a government shutdown. The new budget agreement deadline would coincide with President-elect Trump’s first 100 days in office.
Lawmakers must pass the continuing resolution by Friday, encompassing 1,500 pages. The House Rules Committee needs to approve a waiver of the 72-hour rule for bill text release prior to voting. Unanimous Senate approval is required for procedural passage before the deadline.
As noted previously, both Republicans and Democrats agree that a continuing resolution is the primary method to avoid a shutdown.
Highlights from the bill include:
- $110.4 billion allocated for disaster aid, primarily for southern US states affected by hurricanes Milton and Helene.
- A provision granting DC control over Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium, facilitating the return of the Commanders to the city.
- A 3.8% increase in Congressional salaries, currently set at $174,000.
