Consensys Introduces Network State Platform for Personal Sovereignty

Consensys, a leading Ethereum software solutions provider, announced the launch of a new Network State that allows individuals to declare their "personal" sovereignty. Founder Joseph Lubin commented on this development:

“We’re on the verge of a paradigm shift that will be heard around the world.”

Lubin emphasized that ConsenSys is advancing towards the Network State within the decentralized Web3 and global AI economy. He highlighted the industry's historical challenges, stating that it has been “operating in fear,” limited by activities that should be standard for Web3 companies.

Lubin noted, “We’ve been operating in a climate of regulatory uncertainty, with gaslighting and carpet bombing from the SEC stifling our progress.” Speaking at the Ethereum Devcon event in Bangkok, he remarked:

“We’ve been living in a gaslit world for quite some time, generously fueled by the SEC.”

He further explained the difficulties faced by technology ecosystems under uncertain and overreaching regulations, suggesting a strategic attempt to hinder the industry’s progress.

Consensys Launches Sovereignty Platform on Linea zkEVM

Consensys has introduced sovs.xyz, a project built on Linea, its Layer 2 zero-knowledge Ethereum Virtual Machine (zkEVM) rollup. Recently, Consensys established the Linea Association as a Swiss non-profit aimed at enhancing decentralization in the Layer-2 Linea network.

The Network State platform seeks to empower users by allowing them to attest to various forms of sovereignty relevant to their lives. This initiative aims to create stronger, more sustainable, and equitable communities through decentralized technology. Joseph Lubin stated:

“This is the beginning of a partnership with the community to build a network we all want to be a part of. We are all in the early stages of discovering what self-sovereignty means for ourselves and our communities. We’ll be living more of our lives onchain, as our finances, identities, communications, art, and entertainment are increasingly mediated by open networks and decentralized protocols.”

The platform draws inspiration from Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin’s concept of pop-up cities and network states theory, where online communities come together to form physical communities with aspirations for political autonomy.
