Crypto Exchange CEO’s Family Targeted in Failed Kidnap Attempt in Paris

A failed kidnapping attempt targeted the daughter and grandson of the CEO of a French crypto exchange, Paymium, in Paris. The incident involved three masked men who attempted to abduct them but fled when a shop owner intervened.

This event adds to a series of crypto-related kidnappings in France:

  • In January, David Ballard, co-founder of Ledger, was kidnapped with his wife and ransomed.
  • In May, the father of a French crypto millionaire was kidnapped and later rescued; four suspects were arrested.

The Interior Minister, Bruno Retailleau, plans to meet with crypto entrepreneurs to discuss safety measures amid rising kidnappings targeting wealthy individuals with crypto ties. The Paris prosecutor's office has launched an investigation into the recent attack.

Chainalysis CEO Jonathan Levin noted that law enforcement agencies have been effective in addressing these kidnapping cases, emphasizing that ransom payments are traceable.
