DAWN Aims to Disrupt Broadband Market with Decentralized Protocol
DAWN aims to provide decentralized gigabit-level internet access, allowing users to serve each other broadband and earn cryptocurrency in return, similar to Helium's mobile coverage model.
DAWN targets download speeds exceeding 1 gigabyte per second (1,000 megabytes per second), while Helium hotspots typically offer 5G-grade service. Helium users report variable speeds, from under 100 megabytes per second to gigabit levels, influenced by local demand and hotspot quality.
DAWN utilizes Solana for its tokenomics, aligning it with Helium, which transitioned to Solana in April 2023. This connection ensures ongoing comparisons between the two projects.
DAWN's success may hinge on surpassing Helium in key metrics. Despite a slowdown in Helium's mobile subscription rates this quarter, user spending on the network has increased significantly since the switch to Solana. In December's first two weeks, users spent nearly $63,000 and $56,000 on data, as depicted in usage charts.
DAWN's growth is contingent on leveraging Helium's upward trajectory, focusing on home broadband rather than just hotspot services.
