Do Kwon Faces Possible 30-Year Sentence in South Korea Trial

Do Kwon, the former Terraform Labs CEO involved in the 2022 TerraUSD/LUNA crash, may face trial in South Korea if extradited. Although recently sentenced to 15 years in a U.S. prison for fraud and conspiracy charges, there are discussions about possible legal proceedings in Korea.

Kwon was sentenced to 15 years in the U.S. after pleading guilty; initial prosecution recommendation was 12 years plus $19 million in fines.
The International Prisoner Transfer Program may allow him to apply for transfer to Korea after serving half his U.S. sentence.
In Korea, he could face up to 30 years in prison if found guilty of violating the Capital Markets Act.
The TerraUSD/LUNA collapse resulted in estimated losses of $40 billion globally, with around 200,000 Korean victims losing approximately 300 billion won ($204 million).
About ten alleged accomplices have been under trial in Korea related to the same case.
