Ethereum Developers Set March 2025 Release Date for Pectra Upgrade
Ethereum's next major upgrade, Pectra, is scheduled for release in March 2025. This upgrade consolidates eight Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs) aimed at enhancing speed and efficiency.
- EIP-7702 will improve wallet user experience by allowing wallets to function like smart contracts.
- EIP-7251 increases the maximum stake for validators from 32 to 2,048 ETH, simplifying the staking process.
Pectra represents a significant hard fork, following the Dencun upgrade in 2024. The initial plan was modified to split Pectra into two phases due to its ambitious scope.
Testing on the Sepolia and Holesky networks will occur in February, with deployment to the mainnet anticipated for early or mid-March.
