Farcaster Announces Frames v2 Update Set for Launch in 2025
Dan Romero, co-founder of the Farcaster protocol, announced an update to Frames, named Frames v2, set to launch in 2025. This update aims to enhance user engagement and interaction on the Warpcast platform.
Frames: The Mini-Apps of Farcaster Network
Launched in January 2024, Frames revolutionized interactions with external links and applications within the Warpcast app. Users can mint Non-Fungible Tokens, claim tokens, and make transactions without exiting the app or signing a transaction for each action.
Frames utilize Farcaster’s EdDSA authentication system, reducing wallet drain risks and ensuring protection against spoofing. The introduction of Frames led to a 400% increase in daily active users, growing from 5,000 to over 24,700 within a week.
The platform gained traction partly due to Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin's regular use, which endorsed it within the Ethereum and SocialFi ecosystem. Currently, the Farcaster ecosystem boasts over 5 million unique followers, 6 million reactions, and 2.8 million casts, coinciding with decreased activity on other platforms like Friend.Tech, where daily transactions dropped from 540,000 to 20,000.
More Benefits Come With Frames v2
Despite its initial success, feedback indicated areas needing enhancement, particularly in functionality and user engagement. Frames v2 will introduce a new frame standard to improve these aspects.

This update will enable full-screen applications within Warpcast, support interactive experiences, on-chain transactions, and real-time notifications, enhancing the developer and user experience.
By integrating blockchain features, Frames v2 aims to foster new opportunities for decentralized applications, positioning Warpcast as a more adaptable platform for Web3 users. Romero emphasized that these features are crucial for the Farcaster ecosystem's growth.
Farcaster aspires to lead in decentralized social networking by merging blockchain technology with a user-friendly interface, aiming to transform online interactions. If successful, Frames v2 could significantly advance this objective, attracting attention despite the popularity of platforms like X, TikTok, and Facebook.
As interest in the broader crypto ecosystem shifts towards meme coins like Shiba Inu (SHIB) and dogwifhat (WIF), there is optimism that these upgrades will restore Farcaster's high-performance status.
