Gate Launches Gate Layer Network and GT Tokenomics Upgrade

Gate has launched Gate Layer, a high-performance Layer 2 network to enhance decentralized applications' speed and cost-effectiveness.

  • Gate Layer is built on Optimism’s OP Stack, with GateChain as the primary settlement layer (Layer 1).
  • The network supports over 5,700 transactions per second with one-second block times, offering lower transaction costs compared to existing solutions.
  • Three flagship tools include Perp for perpetual futures trading, Gate Fun as an incubator for Web3 projects, and Meme Go for real-time meme coin trading.

Gate has upgraded the GT tokenomics model:

  • GT becomes the exclusive gas token for Gate Layer, retaining its dual burn mechanism.
  • Over 180.5 million GT have been permanently burned, with continued quarterly burns based on performance metrics.
  • GT is currently trading around $16.20 with a market cap of about $1.33 billion.

The launch aligns with industry trends of exchanges creating their own Layer 2 networks to increase on-chain activity. Examples include:

  • Coinbase's Base, an Ethereum rollup on Optimism’s OP Stack.
  • Binance's opBNB, focusing on low fees and integration with BNB Smart Chain.
  • OKX's X Layer, powered by Polygon zkEVM for Ethereum interoperability.
  • Kraken's Layer 2 network, Ink.
