Gemini Launches Self-Custodial Smart Wallet for Web3 Access
Gemini has launched the Gemini Wallet, a self-custodial smart wallet designed to enhance user access to Web3 protocols, DeFi platforms, and onchain applications. Key features include:
- Seamless transition between embedded and portable wallet experiences
- Passkey-based login for biometrics access
- Social recovery tools to regain access while maintaining privacy
- Integrated dashboard for managing assets and exploring dapps
The wallet is available at onchain.gemini.com. To reduce onboarding friction, Gemini will cover gas fees on select blockchains and provide free ENS subdomains to users.
In response to competition from Coinbase's rebranded Base App, Gemini plans future updates to connect the wallet directly with users' exchange accounts for onchain trades without separate deposits. The company will collaborate with BlockAid, WalletConnect, Bungee, and Morpho for this launch.
Further developments include the upcoming Gemini Onchain platform aimed at expanding into DeFi.
