Google to Allow Crypto Ads in EU Only for MiCA-Licensed Firms

Google will permit cryptocurrency exchanges and software wallets to advertise in the EU only if they hold a license under the Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulation, effective April 23. Key points include:

  • Advertisers must obtain certification from Google and register as a Crypto-Asset Service Provider (CASP) under MiCA.
  • Compliance with country-specific legal obligations is required.
  • MiCA applies to all 27 EU member states, replacing existing national licensing regimes.
  • Current advertisers in France, Germany, and Finland can continue using local licenses until mid-to-late 2025.
  • Warnings will be issued seven days before enforcement actions for non-compliance.
  • Several exchanges have secured MiCA licenses, including OKX and Crypto.com.
