IBM Unveils Digital Asset Haven for Secure Enterprise Custody and Operations
IBM has launched IBM Digital Asset Haven, a platform designed for financial institutions, governments, and corporations to manage digital asset operations. Developed in collaboration with Dfns, the platform supports the entire digital asset lifecycle from custody to transactions and settlement.
- The platform operates across more than 40 public and private blockchains.
- Includes services for identity verification and financial crime prevention, with REST APIs and SDKs for core banking connectivity.
Security Infrastructure and Key Management
- IBM’s infrastructure incorporates Multi-Party Computation and Crypto Express HSMs for enhanced security.
- Hyper Protect Virtual Servers provide hardware-enforced isolation for key generation and transaction signing.
- Integrates IBM Offline Signing Orchestrator for automated cold storage operations.
Competitive Landscape
- Competes with blockchain services from Oracle, Microsoft, and Amazon.
- Launch coincides with reliability concerns over centralized cloud services, such as an AWS outage affecting Coinbase.
- Targets the institutional tokenization market, similar to AWS's partnership with Cronos.
Dfns, IBM's partner, secured $16 million in Series A funding in January 2025. The demand for secure digital asset storage is growing, highlighted by Absa Bank's custody deal with Ripple in South Africa. IBM Digital Asset Haven will be available via SaaS and Hybrid SaaS in Q4 2025, with on-premises deployment scheduled for Q2 2026.
