Ledger Co-Founder Rescued After Kidnapping for Cryptocurrency Ransom

David Balland, co-founder of Ledger, was rescued after being kidnapped in France. He and his wife were taken from their home early Tuesday and held at different locations. The kidnappers contacted another Ledger co-founder to demand ransom in cryptocurrencies.

A police operation, involving elite forces GIGN, freed Ballard on Wednesday, while his wife was found the following day. Ballard sustained injuries to a hand, reportedly having a finger severed as part of the extortion tactics.

Pascal Gauthier, CEO of Ledger, expressed relief over their release and emphasized respect for law enforcement during the investigation. This incident highlights an increasing trend of violent crimes against crypto industry figures amid the ongoing crypto bull market.

Recent reports indicate a rise in robberies targeting crypto traders in Western Europe. ZachXBT, a blockchain investigator, warned individuals to be cautious about sharing personal information and meeting in person.
