Messaging App Line Plans Launch of 30 Mini DApps in Early 2025

Line, a prominent Japanese messaging app with nearly 200 million active users across Japan, Taiwan, Thailand, and Indonesia, is set to integrate blockchain technology into its platform. This initiative aims to transform user interaction within social media applications.

Line's User-Friendly Blockchain Expands Horizons

In early 2025, Line plans to launch 30 decentralized applications (dApps), expanding beyond previous blockchain initiatives. This strategy follows unsuccessful attempts by other social media platforms to engage users with blockchain technologies, particularly non-fungible tokens (NFTs).

The dApps will include games, social applications, decentralized finance (DeFi) tools, and AI-powered chatting applications, as highlighted by Sam Seo, chairman of the Kaia DLT Foundation. The focus on diverse applications aims to enhance user engagement.

Line's previous NFT marketplace, launched in April 2022, provided insights into user behavior, revealing that NFTs were often viewed primarily as investment tools rather than ownership platforms. Seo noted this misalignment between user perception and technological potential.

Line Simplifies Blockchain for Everyday Users

To foster mass adoption, Line intends to simplify complex blockchain concepts into intuitive services. By the end of Q1 2025, the company aims to expand its dApp portfolio to 150 applications, mirroring successful integrations seen on WeChat and Telegram.

Line is positioning itself not only to adapt to technological trends but also to shape them, making blockchain an accessible component of everyday digital communication.
