Nillion Launches Mainnet with NIL Token for Privacy Computing
Nillion has officially launched its mainnet, focusing on privacy-preserving computation through "blind compute." Key details include:
- The NIL token debuted on exchanges, including Binance.
- The mainnet launch was delayed from February to late March.
- Nillion raised $50 million since 2022 from VC and angel rounds.
- 19.5% of the total token supply is circulating at launch; 80% allocated to insiders.
- Unlock cliffs are set between months 6 and 12, with most insider allocations unlocked within three years.
Nillion operates differently from traditional blockchains by using multi-party computation (MPC) rather than consensus for transactions. It aims to support various applications, including AI inference and genomic analysis, while maintaining data privacy.
Current ecosystem projects on Nillion’s mainnet include:
- Ritual for blind AI inference
- Skillful AI, a privacy-first assistant network
- Salt for confidential financial comparisons
- Monadic DNA for secure genomics analytics
- Soarchain, processing over 130 million privacy-preserved data points
Access to the network remains limited, with no current plans to expand validator participation. The vesting schedule for participants in the CoinList Community Round includes:
- Capped purchases: 5% unlock at TGE, 95% vesting over six months
- Uncapped purchases: 25% unlock, 75% vesting monthly over 24 months
Nillion is valued at approximately $750 million, with NIL currently trading around $0.74. The project aims to become a foundational privacy layer for Web3 applications.
