Nobitex Exchange Resumes Operations Following $100 Million Hack
Nobitex, an Iranian crypto exchange, is resuming operations after a hack that resulted in a $100 million loss during the Iran-Israel war.
- Wallet access will be restricted to users who completed identity verification.
- Users are warned against depositing cryptocurrency into old wallets due to migration; previous addresses are no longer valid.
- Withdrawals began on June 30; other activities like deposits and trading will resume gradually without a specified timeline.
The hack was attributed to the pro-Israel hacker group Gonjeshke Darande, which destroyed $90 million in assets and leaked the exchange's source code. Nobitex has been linked to malicious actors, as reported by blockchain analytics platform Chainalysis.
Nobitex recorded inflows of $11 billion, exceeding the combined $7.5 billion of the next ten largest Iranian exchanges. State-sponsored cyberattacks have surged in 2025, with North Korean hackers responsible for significant losses, including a $1.5 billion hack of Bybit.
A report from TRM Labs indicated 75 major cyber incidents in the first half of 2025, leading to over $2.1 billion in losses, with April seeing approximately $357.11 million stolen from investors.
