PayPal’s $1.3B Stablecoin Expands to 9 Blockchains via LayerZero

  • PayPal's USD stablecoin (PYUSD) is expanding to nine additional blockchains via LayerZero, beyond its initial deployment on Ethereum, Solana, Arbitrum, and Stellar.
  • LayerZero has integrated PYUSD into its Hydra Stargate system, creating a permissionless version called PYUSD0, which is interchangeable with the original stablecoin.
  • New blockchains for PYUSD include Abstract, Aptos, Avalanche, Ink, Sei, Stable, and Tron. Community-issued versions on Berachain and Flow will convert automatically.
  • PayPal launched PYUSD in 2023 as one of the first major stablecoins backed by a payments firm, aiming to quickly reach new markets and provide a dollar-pegged option within the crypto economy.
  • The current supply of PYUSD stands at $1.3 billion, up from approximately $520 million earlier this year, according to RWA.xyz data.
