Sam Bankman-Fried May Be Released from Prison in December 2044

Sam Bankman-Fried, founder of FTX, may be released from prison in December 2044, four years earlier than initially sentenced.

  • Bankman-Fried was convicted in 2023 on seven counts of fraud and conspiracy.
  • He received a 25-year sentence in March 2024 for orchestrating an $11 billion fraud.
  • Prosecutors demonstrated he misappropriated customer funds to finance his hedge fund, political donations, and personal enrichment.
  • He is currently in a low-security federal prison in California after being transferred from Brooklyn's Metropolitan Detention Center.
  • His sentence reduction is due to “Good Conduct Time” and participation in prison programs.
  • Time served prior to sentencing also contributes to the reduction.

Caroline Ellison, former CEO of Alameda, received a two-year sentence but is projected to be released in May 2026 due to similar reductions.
