Samurai Shodown R Launches on Sui’s Upcoming Handheld Gaming Device

Sui, the MoveVM-based layer-1 blockchain, announced that the roleplaying game Samurai Shodown R will be available on its upcoming SuiPlay0X1 handheld gaming device.

Samurai Shodown is a classic 1993 Sega fighting game re-released as a massive multiplayer online roleplaying game (MMORPG) in 2019. The new Samurai Shodown R is developed by Lumiwave, a blockchain company focused on bringing intellectual property onchain.

Anthony Palma, head of gaming partnerships and investments at Mysten Labs, stated that Sui’s unique infrastructure enables LumiWave to deliver a seamless Web3 experience, featuring evolving NFTs and in-game asset ownership as fully realized concepts.

Utilizing Sui’s blockchain technology, Samurai Shodown R will include Web3 features like dynamically evolving NFTs based on player progression and “zkLogins” with familiar Web2 credentials such as Facebook and Google.

TapSwap Launches New Web3 Gaming Layer

Tap-to-earn games like Notcoin and Hamster Kombat face issues including user retention, unclear reward structures, and declining token values. TapSwap plans to address these challenges with a new Web3 gaming platform. Gamers will pay an upfront fee using the TAPS token to compete for rewards.

This platform aims to connect gamers with developers, allowing users to earn rewards in the native TAPS token while enabling developers to better monetize their games.

Naz Ventura, founder of TapSwap, noted that traditional tap-to-earn tokens often lose value immediately after listing on centralized exchanges, distorting long-term incentives. TapSwap aims to create a platform that adds genuine utility and value to the TAPS token, ensuring fair and transparent rewards for players.
