Sonic Mainnet Launches with 190.5 Million Token Airdrop and EVM Compatibility

Sonic Labs, a web3-focused company building on the Fantom (FTM) network, has launched the Sonic mainnet, a high-throughput layer one (L1) blockchain compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM). FTM token holders can swap for S tokens at equal value through Sonic's dedicated portal.

FTM holders on the Ethereum (ETH) network can transfer their assets to supported centralized exchanges for automatic upgrades to S tokens. Wrapped FTM holders on the Opera network are advised to unwrap their tokens and use the upgrade portal on MySonic. Staked and delegated FTM tokens can be upgraded after a 24-hour claiming process.

Key Features of Sonic Mainnet

The Sonic network aims to enhance the web3 ecosystem by providing a scalable platform for decentralized applications. It can process up to 10,000 transactions per second with sub-second finality and serves as a decentralized gateway to the Ethereum ecosystem, which has over $76 billion in total value locked (TVL) and approximately $110 billion in stablecoins market cap.

The network supports smart contracts and DeFi protocols in Solidity and Vyper, enabling developers to create multi-chain compatible applications while maintaining security.

The Sonic team plans to airdrop 190.5 million S tokens to incentivize users and those on the Opera network. Users will receive 25 percent of their allocation on the first day, with the remaining 75 percent vested over 270 days.

To attract developers, the Sonic network offers rewards of up to 90 percent of transaction fees generated by their applications. The Sonic team stated, “Inspired by Web2 ad-revenue models popularized by platforms like YouTube, FeeM ensures you directly benefit from the traffic your apps bring to Sonic.”

Additionally, Sonic Labs has established an innovator fund with up to 200 million S tokens from its treasury to promote the adoption of the new chain. The team is collaborating with strategic angel investors alongside venture partners such as Hashed, Signum Capital, and UOB Venture Management.
