Sora Ventures Launches $150 Million Fund for Bitcoin Adoption in Asia
Sora Ventures, a blockchain-focused investment firm, has launched a $150 million fund aimed at promoting Bitcoin (BTC) treasury adoption among publicly listed companies in Asia.
A report by CryptoSlate indicates that this fund draws inspiration from MicroStrategy, which utilizes Bitcoin as a primary reserve asset to enhance financial strategies and shareholder value.
Adapting to Regional Financial Landscapes
The fund targets firms listed on major Asian stock exchanges, including Japan, Hong Kong, Thailand, Taiwan, and South Korea. Sora Ventures plans to tailor its Bitcoin treasury strategies to the unique regulatory and economic conditions of each country. In Japan, for instance, companies incur taxes on unrealized Bitcoin gains, which poses financial challenges that Sora aims to address through innovative solutions, such as optimizing tax efficiency.
Jason Fang, Managing Partner at Sora, noted that discussions are already underway with publicly listed companies in Japan to implement its Bitcoin strategy, with plans to extend efforts to Thailand and Hong Kong.
Metaplanet, a company listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, has benefited from Sora's treasury strategies, achieving the largest Bitcoin portfolio in Asia. This partnership led to a 1,000% increase in Metaplanet’s stock value in 2024, making it the top performer on the Tokyo exchange.
Expanding Bitcoin’s Role Beyond Treasury Management
In addition to corporate adoption, Sora has invested in over 25 blockchain projects focused on layer-1 infrastructure and applications to improve Bitcoin's utility. The firm has organized significant educational events, including Asia’s largest Bitcoin utility conference in Taipei, to promote broader adoption and market confidence.
Founded in 2018, Sora has played a crucial role in advancing blockchain innovation across sectors like gaming, non-fungible tokens (NFTs), and decentralized finance. The firm collaborates with startups, academic institutions, and tech hubs to further develop blockchain technology, positioning itself as a key player in the Web3 landscape.
While Sora Ventures leads Bitcoin treasury adoption in Asia, other institutional players are active in the crypto space. Last year, Nomura's digital asset arm launched a fund for institutional investors, providing a secure avenue for high-net-worth individuals to engage with Bitcoin.
Earlier this year, a former Brevan Howard investor relations manager introduced a hedge fund targeting profits from Bitcoin lending, indicating growing demand for crypto-backed financial services and highlighting Bitcoin's monetization potential in institutional strategies.
