Sui Foundation Appoints Christian Thompson as Managing Director

Sui Foundation, focused on the scalability of the Sui Network, has appointed Christian Thompson as its new Managing Director. He succeeds Dr. Greg Siourounis, who held the position since the Foundation's establishment in 2023.

The appointment promotes Thompson from his role as Meta's Deputy Chief Information Security Officer to lead the Sui Foundation.

Sui Foundation in a New Dispensation

Thompson's appointment is significant for Sui, which has positioned itself as a leading Layer-1 blockchain with over $1.5 billion in Total Value Locked. Following the Foundation's achievements in 2024, Thompson's leadership is anticipated to drive growth and innovation within the ecosystem.

As Managing Director, Thompson will operate from the Cayman Islands, utilizing his extensive experience in tech, finance, and blockchain to enhance engagement among enthusiasts, developers, and Sui's global community. His background includes founding Knowledge Preserve and OnDetail, nearly a decade in law enforcement, establishing The Capital Quorum, and co-founding The Capitola Public Safety and Community Service Foundation.

Prior to joining Sui, he was Deputy CISO at Meta and an early member of the Libra/Diem project.

Highlighting Sui's rapid progress, Thompson stated, “In less than two years, due to its scalable and accessible design, Sui has grown into a top destination for millions of crypto users.” He emphasized his goal to empower builders and engage developers while promoting Sui as a key player in the digital future.

Down Memory Lane With Sui

Sui launched its mainnet in May 2023, making the SUI token available on major exchanges such as Binance, Bybit, KuCoin, and OKX.

The Mysten Labs team designed the protocol for high speed, scalability, and efficiency, aiming to surpass Solana (SOL) in throughput and transaction speed.

In the past eighteen months, Sui has achieved several milestones, including partnerships. Recently, Sui collaborated with Ant Digital and ZAN to tokenize green and innovative assets, enhancing its mission to make sustainable investments globally accessible. This partnership utilizes Ant Digital’s expertise and ZAN’s web3 tools to build a robust ecosystem for tokenizing real-world assets on Sui.

Earlier, Sui deployed Mysticeti, a protocol that reduces consensus latency to 390 milliseconds, following a successful testnet phase. Mysticeti provides unprecedented transaction speeds and maintains low latency across all transaction types.

With Thompson at the helm, further achievements are expected for the Sui Foundation.
