The Ethereum-based project Truebit experienced a severe exploit, draining over $26.4 million from its protocol.
A smart contract flaw allowed the attacker to mint large amounts of TRU tokens at nearly zero cost due to a math error.
The attacker sold these tokens back into the liquidity pool, extracting significant amounts of ETH.
On-chain analysis revealed that 8,535 ETH were distributed between two wallets.
TRU token value plummeted from $0.16 to near $0.00, and it is currently trading around $0.034, with most of its market cap wiped out.
Truebit is collaborating with law enforcement but has not yet announced any recovery plans.
This incident is noted as the first significant crypto hack of 2026, following multiple DeFi exploits in the previous year.
