Donald Trump Wins 2024 Presidential Election to Become 47th President
The winner of the 2024 presidential election is former President Donald Trump.
Fox News projected Trump's victory, with networks including NBC officially confirming the result shortly after. Wisconsin’s 10 electoral votes secured his win at approximately 5:30 am ET.
Trump led early on, benefiting from the “red mirage” phenomenon as states in the South were called for him. He received over 70 million votes and won key states including North Carolina, Georgia, and Pennsylvania.
In his speech before the official call, Trump appeared with family members, stating, “This was, I believe, the greatest political movement of all time. We’re going to help our country heal.”
He noted, “We made history for a reason tonight,” and expressed excitement about being both the 47th and 45th president. At that moment, only Fox News had projected his victory, while he had reached 266 electoral votes.
Trump told the crowd, “This will truly be the golden age of America.” He has previously run for president three times, with this election marking his first promise of policies favorable for crypto. In 2020, he lost to Joe Biden, who withdrew from re-election in July.
Trump's platform includes a pledge to end the “unlawful and unAmerican Crypto crackdown” by Democrats and to promote Bitcoin production in the U.S., which may lead to favorable mining policies.
However, no specific policies have emerged from Trump’s crypto promises yet. He is set to be inaugurated in late January.
Additionally, Trump is associated with the DeFi project World Liberty Financial, which recently lowered its fundraising goals following a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission after opening its whitelist for accredited investors.
Prediction markets Kalshi and Polymarket indicated Trump was leading throughout the election cycle. As counting progressed, his lead over Kamala Harris increased significantly before major networks declared him the winner.
Trump's vice presidential pick, JD Vance, has shown support for crypto and previously proposed legislation focused on the sector. Compared to Harris, Trump was perceived as the crypto candidate, although Harris also addressed crypto in her platform, promising to encourage innovative technologies.
