On December 31, Uniswap Labs indicated significant developments for 2025, including v4 and a project called Unichain. In June 2023, founder Hayden Adams shared a draft code for v4, inviting community feedback and confirming that development would take several months.
The team initially planned for v4 to follow the Ethereum Dencun upgrade, but it has remained in testing throughout 2024. A bug bounty program was launched in November 2024, offering rewards starting from $2,000 for identifying vulnerabilities in the v4 core smart contracts.
Uniswap v4 Will Have Major Updates
Uniswap v3 was launched in May 2021, introducing concentrated liquidity. The upcoming v4 will feature an architectural overhaul with new functionalities. Key enhancements include “Hooks” for executing custom code around swaps, enabling advanced features like limit orders, fee management, custom oracles, and automated liquidity management. Additional updates will focus on gas savings, dynamic fees, native ETH support, flash accounting, and multiple pool types.
The anticipated v4 release coincides with increased trading activity on Ethereum DEXs, with December volumes reaching $462 billion, and Uniswap contributing $106 billion as the largest DEX by volume, according to DefiLlama.
Uniswap's native token UNI is currently up 6%, trading at $14, although it remains 69% below its all-time high of $44.92 from May 2021.
