US Senate Races of Interest to Crypto Industry on Election Night

This is a segment from the Forward Guidance newsletter.

Happy Election Day to US readers!

Recent discussions highlighted a close Senate race attracting significant crypto donor interest. Here are key Senate races to monitor:

Utah Senate Seat: Caroline Gleich (D) vs. Rep. John Curtis (R)

Rep. Curtis leads Democrat Gleich by 35%, influenced by donations from the crypto industry. The Defend American Jobs PAC contributed $1.9 million to Curtis's campaign, nearly 35% of his total funds.

Curtis co-sponsored two crypto-related bills this session: the FIT21 Act and the CBDC Anti-Surveillance State Act. He voted for a bill aimed at discrediting the SEC’s SAB 121 guidance, which was vetoed by President Biden.

Curtis emphasized the importance of government understanding of crypto to avoid poor regulatory decisions at Blockworks’ Permissionless conference.

Michigan Senate Seat: Rep. Elissa Slotkin (D) vs. Former Rep. Mike Rogers (R)

This close race shows Slotkin leading Rogers 49% to 48%. Both candidates appear supportive of crypto. Slotkin holds an A rating from Stand With Crypto and has supported both FIT21 and efforts to overturn SAB 121, with over $10 million in backing from Protect Progress PAC.

Rogers also has an A rating but lacks a notable voting record on crypto issues, instead promoting pro-crypto messaging during his campaign.

Arizona Senate Seat: Ruben Gallego (D) vs. Kari Lake (R)

This competitive race features both candidates with A ratings from Stand With Crypto. Lake supports bitcoin as a “last line of defense” against foreign threats and accepts bitcoin donations. Gallego voted for FIT21 and SAB 121 resolution, receiving $10 million in backing from Protect Progress.
