SlowMist Reports $98.19 Million Lost to Web3 Security Incidents in January
SlowMist's monthly security report indicates total losses from Web3 security incidents in January reached approximately $98.19 million, a decrease from $160 million in January last year.
- 40 hacking attacks resulted in around $87.94 million in damages, with $1.47 million recovered.
- Key causes included contract vulnerabilities, compromised accounts, and private key leaks.
- Significant incidents included:
- Phemex exchange lost about $70 million due to a hot wallet attack on January 23.
- NoOnes P2P platform lost approximately $7.2 million from a Solana bridge exploit on January 1.
- AdsPower experienced a malicious attack on January 24, leading to over $4.7 million stolen.
- Orange Finance suffered a loss of about $830,000 due to a multisig error on January 8.
Phishing Scams and Account Compromises
Scam Sniffer reported over 9,220 victims of crypto phishing scams in January, losing $10.25 million, a 56% drop from December’s $23.58 million.
- 21 account compromises were recorded in January, many targeting high-profile individuals.
- Meme coin scams are prevalent, with malicious actors using social media to promote fake tokens.
- Daily figures for fake crypto accounts exceeded 300 in December, up from an average of 160 in November.
Users are advised to exercise caution when purchasing tokens promoted by political figures or celebrities.
