World Launches Mini Apps 1.2 and $300,000 Developer Rewards Program
Tools for Humanity has released version 1.2 of Mini Apps within the World mobile app. The update enhances performance with faster loading times, haptic feedback, and customization options. Users can now pin favorite mini apps directly to their home screen.
The app supports over 150 mini apps, primarily developed by third parties. A new Developer Rewards pilot program offers developers a total of $300,000 in Worldcoin or WLD starting April 1, with top performers earning up to $25,000 weekly.
Rewards are based on user engagement from World ID-verified users. Popular categories include:
- Games
- AI applications
- Finance and lending apps
- Airdrop applications
- Payment solutions using WLD
- eSIM services
Sada noted that many mini apps aim to reward users rather than extract funds. There are ongoing challenges in maintaining sustainable systems for play-to-earn models due to volatility in token prices.
Transactions conducted in mini apps bypass Apple and Google’s in-app purchase requirements for certain digital goods. However, purchases like NFTs would still fall under these regulations. Non-digital transactions, such as buying plane tickets or eSIM cards, remain unaffected.
World differentiates itself from platforms like Telegram and X/Twitter by providing clearer user verification, reducing bot prevalence and chaotic interactions.
