Bithumb made headlines in mid-2017 when it announced that it had fallen victim to a hack. As a result of the breach, personal information of over 30,000 customers was stolen. Following a separate breach in July, data on more than 3,400 additional customers was leaked, and these two incidents prompted the Korea Communications Commission to fine the exchange 60 million won.
