How Safe is Bithumb?

Bithumb made headlines in mid-2017 when it announced that it had fallen victim to a hack. As a result of the breach, personal information of over 30,000 customers was stolen. Some reported losses of cryptocurrency from their exchange accounts. Following a separate breach in July, data on more than 3,400 additional customers was leaked, and these two incidents prompted the Korea Communications Commission to fine the exchange 60 million won.

In June 2018, the exchange was hacked again. This time, the total value of cryptocurrency lost from users' accounts was $30,000,000.

Another theft occurred in March 2019, resulting in an additional loss of $20 million worth of cryptocurrency.
