Bhutan Partners With Cumberland DRW for Bitcoin Reserve Management

Bhutan has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Cumberland DRW to support Bitcoin reserve management in Gelephu Mindfulness City (GMC).

The partnership aims to explore stablecoins, mining, and AI computing in GMC, led by Green Digital Ltd.
This multi-year collaboration focuses on building a responsible digital asset ecosystem guided by His Majesty King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck's vision.
GMC is a special administrative region attracting global talent, focused on integrating technology, sustainability, and mindful development.
In January, GMC integrated Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Binance Coin into reserves to promote blockchain innovation and economic resilience.
The partnership centers on sustainable digital asset infrastructure, national stablecoin development, and talent building.
This initiative supports Bhutan’s Gross National Happiness model, emphasizing collective happiness over economic growth.
Cumberland will manage Bitcoin reserves, hire local talent, and deploy experts to develop the local workforce.
Bhutan has deployed its National Digital Identity system on Ethereum, previously on Polygon.
Plans to launch TER, a sovereign digital token backed by gold reserves on the Solana blockchain, are scheduled for December 17.
