Crypto Hacks Reach $163 Million in August with 16 Breaches
In August 2025, the crypto sector experienced a rise in hacks for the third consecutive month, totaling 16 breaches and losses of $163 million, marking a 15% increase from July's $142 million.
- BtcTurk faced its second major breach, losing over $50 million following a previous $54 million hack.
- The largest hack involved a Bitcoin holder losing over $91 million.
- Odin Fun lost approximately $7 million, while BetterBank and CrediX Finance lost $5 million and $4.5 million, respectively.
Despite these security issues, the market saw a surge in mid-August with BTC reaching an all-time high of $124,457 and Ethereum hitting $4,953.
Decentralized finance remains above the $150 billion mark, despite a selloff at the end of August.
