Bitcoin Development Mailing List Temporarily Offline Due to Bot Attack
The Bitcoin Development Mailing List experienced downtime on Wednesday due to a suspected bot attack. Google flagged the group as containing "spam, malware, or other malicious content," resulting in users receiving a “permanently removed” message.
The group is essential for discussing Bitcoin proposals and addressing development issues. It transitioned to Google in February 2024 after being hosted by several organizations previously. Developer Ruben Somsen expressed frustration over the removal, questioning Google's stance on open-source development.
Google's Workspace Support resolved the issue early Thursday without providing a detailed explanation. Reports indicate that the takedown may have been caused by a malicious actor executing numerous tasks to disrupt the service.
This incident coincides with Bitcoin's price volatility influenced by recent U.S. tariffs announced on Wednesday.
