Israel Identifies $1.5B in Crypto Linked to Iran’s Revolutionary Guard

The National Bureau for Counter Terror Financing of Israel (NBCTF) has identified 187 cryptocurrency addresses linked to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), a group recognized as terrorist by the U.S., EU, U.K., and Canada.

  • Blockchain analytics firm Elliptic reports these addresses received $1.5 billion in USDT.
  • Tether has frozen 39 of these addresses, halting transfers of approximately $1.5 million in USDT.
  • The IRGC has been involved in illicit crypto activities for years.
  • The U.S. Justice Department recently seized nearly $600,000 in USDT from an Iranian national tied to the IRGC.
  • In December 2024, U.S. Treasury sanctions targeted wallets moving over $300 million in stablecoins via intermediaries linked to the IRGC.
  • In June 2025, hacker group Gonjeshke Darande stole $90 million from Nobitex, an exchange linked to the IRGC.

The hack is considered a significant setback for Iran, alleged to use crypto for sanction evasion.
