KBC Group opens Bitcoin and Ethereum trading for 4 million Belgian clients

KBC Group Expands Crypto Trading:

  • KBC Group will offer Bitcoin and Ethereum trading to 4 million retail clients starting the week of Feb. 16.
  • This makes KBC the first Belgian bank providing direct crypto access under the EU's MiCA framework.
  • The service will be available on Bolero, KBC’s investment platform, with a "closed-loop" model restricting asset movements.
  • Clients must pass a risk-knowledge test; KBC controls all private keys within its infrastructure.

Regulatory Framework:

  • KBC has filed a Crypto-Asset Service Provider (CASP) notification with Belgium's Financial Services and Markets Authority (FSMA).
  • Belgium implements MiCA regulation through the Law of 11 December 2025, distinguishing between Article 63 authorization and Article 60 notifications.
  • Banks have a faster route to market compared to standalone crypto firms.

Bitcoin is trading at $95,671 (-0.9%), while Ethereum is at $3,313 (-0.6%).
