Metaplanet Closes $1.4 Billion International Offering to Boost Bitcoin Holdings

Metaplanet, Asia’s largest corporate holder of Bitcoin, has closed its international offering. Key details include:

  • Issuance of 385 million new shares, up from the planned 180 million.
  • Projected capital raise of ¥205 billion (approximately $1.4 billion).
  • Proceeds will be allocated to acquiring more Bitcoin and supporting Bitcoin-related income-generating activities.
  • Shares priced at ¥553 each, a 9.9% discount from the trading price of ¥614.
  • New shares scheduled to be paid on September 16, 2025, with delivery to investors on September 17, 2025.
  • Total outstanding shares will increase from around 756 million to over 1.14 billion, with speculation of reaching approximately 1.5 billion based on subscription levels.

Metaplanet aims to expand its Bitcoin holdings significantly, targeting 100,000 BTC by the end of 2026 and 210,000 BTC by the end of 2027. Currently, it holds 20,136 BTC, which is close to its year-end target. The company secured an additional 136 BTC worth $15.2 million recently.

In comparison, MicroStrategy has amassed a total of 638,460 BTC after a recent acquisition of 1,955 BTC. Metaplanet's investment strategy is showing strong year-to-date returns with a yield of 487% in 2025.
