Tether to Launch USDT Stablecoin on Bitcoin via RGB Protocol
Tether plans to launch its dollar-pegged USDT stablecoin on the Bitcoin network using the RGB protocol. This initiative aims to enable stablecoins to operate natively on Bitcoin, allowing users to:
- Transact directly on the Bitcoin network
- Hold both USDT and Bitcoin in a single wallet
- Send and receive value offline
No specific timeline for the rollout has been provided. The RGB Protocol Association indicated that this collaboration will enhance integrations with the Lightning Network, facilitating privacy and instant settlements.
Tether's recent performance includes:
- A record net profit margin
- All-time high issuance for USDT, now valued at $167.33 billion in market capitalization
- Strategic hiring of former U.S. crypto official Bo Hines
- Development of the QVAC Keyboard, an AI-powered device for secure transactions
USDT remains the largest stablecoin globally by market cap.
