Texas Congressman Proposes Cryptocurrency ATMs in Federal Buildings

Texas Congressman Lance Gooden has proposed the installation of cryptocurrency ATMs in federal buildings to support the U.S. government's pro-digital asset initiative, as promoted by President Trump.

Gooden urged the General Services Administration (GSA) to explore this proposal in a letter.
The plan is intended to signal government support for innovation in cryptocurrency and blockchain technology.
The GSA currently operates traditional ATMs in some facilities.
Gooden's proposal includes guidelines for secure identity verification and transparency in transaction fees.

This comes amid concerns regarding crypto ATMs' involvement in scams, leading to legislative efforts like the Crypto ATM Fraud Prevention Act and new regulations in New Jersey aimed at consumer protection.

Bitcoin Depot reported decreased transactions and revenue from its ATMs despite rising bitcoin prices. Gooden has been recognized for his industry-friendly stance, having co-authored previous legislation on stablecoins and opposed central bank digital currencies.
