Trump Appoints Bo Hines as Executive Director for Digital Assets Council

President-elect Donald Trump is progressing through his crypto promises list with a new personnel decision.

Trump announced that Bo Hines will serve as executive director of the Presidential Council of Advisers for Digital Assets. David Sacks, co-founder of PayPal and recently appointed AI and crypto czar, will chair this group.

Hines will collaborate with Sacks to promote innovation and growth in the digital assets sector while ensuring industry leaders have necessary resources, according to Trump's statement on Truth Social.

Hines, a former NC State and Yale football player, previously ran for North Carolina’s 13th Congressional district in 2022 but lost to Democrat Wiley Nickel. He launched a campaign for the state’s 6th Congressional district in December 2023, endorsing Trump that month. In a post on X, he stated:

In July, Trump mentioned a US crypto council during his address at the Bitcoin 2024 conference, indicating he would assemble it "immediately." He claimed the council would design crypto regulatory guidance within 100 days.

Reuters reported last month that companies like Ripple, Kraken, Circle, Paradigm, and a16z expressed interest in joining the council.

Trump's actions suggest his pro-crypto stance is substantive. He nominated crypto-friendly Cantor Fitzgerald CEO Howard Lutnick to lead the Department of Commerce shortly before the Reuters article. Recently, Trump met with Crypto.com CEO Kris Marszalek to discuss crypto-related appointments and a bitcoin reserve.

Notable figures congratulating Hines on X included Michael Saylor and Fred Thiel, leaders of MicroStrategy and Marathon Digital, which collectively hold approximately 490,000 BTC.
