Victim Loses 783 BTC Worth $91.4 Million in Scam Attack
Blockchain investigator ZachXBT reported a social engineering attack on August 19, where the victim lost 783 BTC, valued at approximately $91.4 million. The attacker impersonated a support agent for a hardware wallet to acquire the victim's wallet credentials.
This incident is part of a broader trend of social engineering scams, contributing to a total loss of $3.1 billion in hacks and scams in the first half of 2025.

The stolen funds were laundered through multiple deposits into Wasabi Wallet, a privacy tool used to obscure transaction trails. This hack occurred one year after a significant theft involving $243 million linked to Genesis, which resulted in the arrest of 12 individuals in California.
