Ethereum futures volume outpaces spot sixfold, signaling weak market demand
Ethereum reclaims $2,200; futures dominate, spot lags
Ethereum (ETH) is back above $2,200 after weeks of chop. Buyers push the bounce, but spot demand looks thin.
CryptoQuant flags a structural shift on Binance. ETH open interest has dropped by ~400,000 ETH since January, about $4 billion exiting futures positions, per a CryptoQuant quicktake.
Futures now dwarf spot. The spot-to-futures volume ratio on Binance is at its lowest since 2023, with futures trading over six times larger than spot, the same analysis shows.

That signals weak spot buying. Trading concentrates in leveraged derivatives, according to CryptoQuant’s Darkfost note.
Caution may be reinforced by continued sales from major ecosystem entities, including the Ethereum Foundation or wallets linked to Vitalik Buterin, Darkfost adds in the same report.
Macro flows also bite. Institutional rotation out of risk has aligned with a stronger dollar and higher long-term yields, which reduce liquidity for speculative markets, per a NewsBTC report.
On price action, the 4h chart shows a clean breakout above short- and mid-term moving averages. Immediate resistance sits near $2,260. Support holds at $2,100–$2,150.
If support holds, the next area is $2,300–$2,400. Volume expanded on the breakout, signaling firmer participation than prior attempts.
