1inch Launches Fusion+ to Enhance Cross-Chain Swap Security and Simplicity

Cross-chain interoperability has been a challenge for the DeFi ecosystem due to the complex and risky nature of transactions. Traditionally, moving assets between blockchains involves cross-chain bridges that increase security risks. Decentralized options offer more security but often lack user-friendliness.

DeFi protocol 1inch addresses this issue with the release of Fusion+, which eliminates the need for cross-chain bridges, enhancing simplicity and security in cross-chain swaps. Fusion+ is integrated into the 1inch decentralized application (dApp) and 1inch Wallet, consolidating liquidity from the Web3 ecosystem.

A new chapter in blockchain interoperability

The solution facilitates secure, operator-free swaps across multiple blockchains utilizing atomic swap technology, cryptographic protections, and a Dutch auction mechanism for optimal rates. Since its beta launch in September, Fusion+ has processed millions of dollars in trading volume, showcasing its efficiency.

Key features of Fusion+ include:

  • Security by design: Employs atomic swaps with Maximal Extractable Value (MEV) protection, ensuring trades are either fully completed or safely reverted, preventing issues like partial fills.
  • Seamless user experience: Users select tokens and chains to swap, confirm the transaction, and keep the swap tab open until completion without complex configurations.
  • Optimal rates: Utilizes Dutch auctions and competitive resolvers to secure the best rates for users.
  • Trustless transactions: Implements cryptographic hashlocks and timelocks for decentralized swaps without third-party reliance.

How Fusion+ works

Fusion+ builds on 1inch’s intent-based framework and atomic swap technology with a three-step process:

  1. Initiating the swap: Users set a desired minimum return, starting a Dutch auction where resolvers bid by reducing their fees until the order is accepted.
  2. Escrow and locking: Funds are placed into escrow contracts on both source and destination blockchains, secured by cryptographic secrets and timelocks.
  3. Completing the swap: Once conditions are satisfied, cryptographic secrets unlock the user’s tokens on the destination chain. If not completed in time, funds revert to the original owners.

Fusion+ addresses critical inefficiencies and security vulnerabilities in DeFi by eliminating bridge reliance, thereby reducing risks associated with hacks and exploits. Its streamlined user experience aims to attract a broader audience, including retail and institutional investors.

Fusion+ is accessible through the 1inch dApp and Wallet with no additional setup required. Users select tokens and networks, confirm the transaction, and wait for completion.
