Brazilian central depository records securities on XRP Ledger for first time

3 min

A licensed central securities depository is recording securities ownership on a public blockchain for the first time on the XRP Ledger in Brazil. CSD BR, which operates Brazil’s market infrastructure, is partnering with Ripple to bring regulated capital markets onchain. The pilot starts with BTG Pactual fund shares, secured by Ripple Custody. XRP trades near $1.50, up 0.2% on the day, with $3.73 billion in daily volume and a $94.7 billion market cap. Price has been rangebound.

Why this differs from prior Ripple announcements

A regulated depository is involved. CSD BR records securities ownership across Brazilian markets. Using a public blockchain to register securities ownership is a first for this type of institution. The implementation complements existing infrastructure and provides authorized participants near real-time verification. Access is permissioned under KYC and AML. The pilot uses the Multi-Purpose Token standard for BTG Pactual fund shares. Real Estate and Agribusiness Receivables Certificates are slated for later phases. Brazil’s financial market is estimated at about $22 trillion, so partial onchain migration would be material for the ledger’s relevance.

Implications for XRP demand

No direct demand effect. The initiative uses the XRP Ledger without requiring purchases of XRP. Tokenized fund shares settle as distinct assets, with Ripple Custody providing security. Ledger transactions burn small XRP fees, so higher institutional activity marginally increases token burn, but this is negligible versus a 63 billion supply. The development strengthens the ecosystem’s long-term positioning if regulated depositories adopt XRPL as infrastructure. This supports a multi-year thesis rather than a near-term price catalyst.

Price structure and key levels

XRP bottomed near $1.00 in August and recovered into a tight range. The 50-day EMA at $1.3720 has crossed above and converged with the 200-day EMA at $1.3716, both rising beneath price.

  • Ceiling: $1.6227. A daily close above confirms breakout.
  • Key floor: $1.3716 to $1.3720. Holding preserves recovery structure.
  • Last line: $1.2611. A break below negates the August recovery.

Price is coiling between $1.37 and $1.62. Such compressions commonly resolve sharply after a catalyst. The Brazil initiative is infrastructure-focused and unlikely to trigger a breakout. As long as the moving averages hold, the structure favors a retest of $1.6227 over a move toward $1.26.
