Fake cops steal €900K in Bitcoin from French couple at knifepoint
**Three men steal nearly $1M in Bitcoin from French couple at knifepoint**
Three assailants disguised as police officers robbed about €900,000 (≈$1M) in Bitcoin from a couple in Le Chesnay, France.
According to TF1 Info, the attackers broke into the victims’ home early Monday, tied the man, and forced him at knifepoint to transfer the crypto. They escaped in a white van around 9 a.m. Police confirmed the couple was injured but safe.
The Versailles prosecutor’s office launched an investigation for kidnapping and armed robbery by an organized gang. The case is being handled by the Brigade de répression du banditisme (BRB). No arrests yet.
France has seen a surge in such “crypto-forced transfers.” Similar violent incidents have occurred since 2025, including the kidnapping of Ledger’s co‑founder David Balland and a failed February 2026 home invasion targeting Binance France’s head, as reported by RTL News.
Physical attacks on crypto owners are rising globally. In November 2025, a San Francisco trader lost $11M in a fake delivery heist, and in March 2026, veteran investor “Mr Silly” lost $24M in a combined online‑offline theft, per Bitcoinist.
The incident underscores a new pattern: the threat to Bitcoin investors is no longer just digital — it’s at the doorstep.
