Fusaka Upgrade Development Advances as Pectra Fork Nears Completion
Ethereum core developers are preparing for the Pectra fork scheduled for May 7, with client releases expected by late next week and a public announcement around April 22–23. Nodes must upgrade before the fork.
The focus has shifted to the next major update, Fusaka, where developers agreed on key features and began considering new EIPs. Tim Beiko confirmed that PeerDAS and EOF will be integral to Fusaka, which is aimed for completion in 2025.
- EIP-7825: Introduces a gas cap for transactions to enhance parallel execution.
- EIP-7907: Increases runtime code size limit with fairer cost metering.
- EIP-7823: Caps modexp input size to reduce memory bloat.
Two EIPs focused on blob fee market adjustments were also discussed. The global gas limit topic remains unresolved, but performance improvements are prioritized for future forks.
A dedicated ACD Testing call will handle implementation details for current upgrades, while ACD calls will focus on future forks. Plans for "Pectra Pages," documenting reflections from the development teams, are due by April 28.
EIP-7819 was proposed during the meeting but will be re-evaluated for the Amsterdam fork. Overall, the roadmap for Ethereum’s 2025 upgrades is becoming clearer.
