Elizabeth Warren Wins Massachusetts Senate Race Against John Deaton

Sitting US Senator Elizabeth Warren defeated Republican nominee John Deaton, securing 81.6% of the vote as reported by the Associated Press.

As of 8:11 pm ET, Deaton had not conceded. His campaign did not respond to Blockworks’ request for comment.

Cryptocurrency regulation was a significant issue in the Massachusetts race. During a debate last month, Warren, a long-time opponent of pro-crypto proposals, claimed Deaton aimed to protect “his crypto buddies.”

Deaton countered, stating that bitcoin and digital assets could benefit marginalized communities. He referenced his mother’s struggles with bank fees and minimum balance requirements, which could be alleviated through blockchain transactions.

Warren later stated she is “fine” with investments in bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, provided safety remains a priority. This statement followed her criticism of the US Securities and Exchange Commission for approving spot bitcoin ETFs earlier this year.

Deaton raised $2.1 million in campaign contributions by mid-October, with approximately half from a personal loan. Notable donors included Gemini co-founders Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss, and Ripple CEOs Brad Garlinghouse and Chris Larsen, each contributing the maximum allowed amount.

The Warren campaign also did not respond to Blockworks’ request for comment.
