Iran reopens Strait of Hormuz during ceasefire; Bitcoin breaks $76K

Trump says Hormuz Strait is open during the US–Iran ceasefire. Iran confirms unblocking through April 22. Bitcoin pops above $76,000.

Former President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social that the Strait of Hormuz is fully open for passage.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said the strait “will be open for the period of the remaining US–Iran ceasefire, which expires on April 22.” The reopening is tied to that window, per reporting by The Washington Post.

Crypto moved fast. Bitcoin jumped above $76,000 and traded near $76,612, up more than 2% on the day, according to TradingView data.

A 10‑day Israel–Lebanon ceasefire helped unlock the decision. Iran had linked Lebanon to its conditions. After the Lebanon deal, came the Hormuz announcement, then a crypto rally. See the Lebanon ceasefire coverage in The New York Times and the Hormuz update via BBC.

Why it matters: Hormuz is a critical oil chokepoint. Reopening reduces an immediate risk overhang for energy and risk assets.

What’s next
- The ceasefire has a hard deadline on April 22 per Araghchi
- No formal extension has been announced
- Negotiations continue; Iran views the Lebanon deal as support for its position per NYT
