Polygon Open Money Stack adds TRON support for USDT payments
Polygon Open Money Stack now supports TRON: payment and fintech firms get a single infrastructure layer to accept, hold, route, and pay out TRC-20 USDT while linking to fiat rails and other chains. Polygon cites more than $94 billion USDT circulating on TRON, over half of total supply.
What the integration enables
- TRON deposit flows: businesses can issue persistent TRON addresses to receive USDT, hold balances via chosen wallet models, and manage treasury.
- Cross-chain settlement: Polygon Trails routes assets between TRON and EVM networks. A transaction can start as USDT on TRON and settle in a different stablecoin on another chain.
- Off-chain payouts: funds can be paid out to bank accounts, cards, cash pickup locations, or other wallets without user-facing bridges.
Why TRON matters
- Liquidity concentration: TRON carries more than $94 billion USDT, used in remittances, exchange transfers, and dollar-based payments in high-friction banking markets.
- User habits: many users choose TRON for existing USDT liquidity and payment rails, not ideology. Migrating them adds friction without clear benefit.
Polygon’s positioning
- Orchestration over maximalism: Open Money Stack acts as a network-agnostic orchestration layer rather than forcing activity onto Polygon’s own chain.
- Invisible infrastructure: TRON remains the balance layer while Polygon’s software handles routing and fiat connectivity. End users may not know Polygon is involved.
Market implications
- Shift in competition: stablecoin competition moves from supply counts to infrastructure that connects on-chain balances to banks, businesses, and other chains.
- TRON’s role: TRON already holds the dollars. Polygon aims to provide the machinery around those dollars, potentially increasing enterprise adoption of its stack.
