Riot Platforms Appoints Three New Directors to Explore AI Opportunities

Riot Platforms appointed three new directors to its board as it explores opportunities in artificial intelligence (AI) and high-performance computing (HPC). The new directors are:

  • Michael Turner, former president of Oxford Properties
  • Jaime Leverton, ex-CEO of Hut 8 Mining
  • Doug Mouton, a data center development expert from Microsoft and Meta

These appointments aim to facilitate the repurposing of Riot's mining infrastructure, particularly the Corsicana Facility in Texas, for AI workloads. Riot has engaged investment banks Evercore and Northland Capital Markets for assistance in this transition.

This shift aligns with a broader industry trend where miners seek alternative revenue streams due to rising energy costs and decreasing mining rewards following the recent Bitcoin halving.
